1936 –  The Recession continues to bite.........

Bro Finan Ryan
Director ,1936-1938

·       In 1937 the recession  was still affecting St Michael’s for the school was still running two “private classes” whose teachers’ salaries were being paid by the voluntary subscriptions of the other teachers on the staff.
·       The same scheme was operating in other Brothers’ schools.
·       Brother Finan Ryan noted for his natural generosity enrolled  more boys than the government regulations allowed.
·       The Education Office made him send away an entire class.
·       The feelings of the boys and parents were so hurt that Brother Finan himself decided to move on to  another posting.
