· In 1937 the recession was still affecting St Michael’s for the
school was still running two “private classes” whose teachers’ salaries were
being paid by the voluntary subscriptions of the other teachers on the staff.
· The same scheme was operating in other Brothers’
schools.
· Brother Finan Ryan noted for his natural
generosity enrolled more boys than the
government regulations allowed.
· The Education Office made him send away an entire
class.
· The feelings of the boys and parents were so hurt
that Brother Finan himself decided to move on to another posting.
